Things to Do in Chile capital

Santiago is not only the capital, but is also the fastest growing town of the nation in terms of economy and tourism. For a tourist, Chile has always been famous for its adventurous as well as cultural attractions and so is the case with the capital. In this capital town, you will come across several theaters, events, museums, restaurants, and other entertaining opportunities all of which offer an eclectic experience in this corner of South America that has always been in gossips for its great cultural as well as natural heritage.

Both summer and winter are experienced in this capital of which the latter is cold and rainy with the night temperatures falling below 0 degree Celsius, while the former one is quite dry with some occasional humidity and high temperatures of 35 degree Celsius. So, it is totally up to you to decide to come here. Getting around here is very comfortable by bus and cars of which the former requires a convenient bip!-card for CH$1200 granting free access to the bus and subways. This card is fine if you are planning to stay here for longer days and looking for much more things to do in Chile.

Start your hot day (if it is summer) from the vast Parque Metropolitano featuring the great Cerro San Cristóbal from where you can enjoy a great vista of the city and also of the Andes if the day is clear. For the faint-hearted, there is a funicular for $1600 including round trip or a cable car to take to the summit, while the adventurous can pursue a long hike. By the way, in 1987, Pope John Paul II had also visited this pinnacle. Other attractions here include a zoo, botanical garden, and swimming pools.

One of the exciting things to do in Chile is skiing in the Andes, just 30 minutes away from the capital city. Get here through a tour company who offer an inexpensive stay in a resort as well as cheap, but good equipments. As against winter, if you are arriving in summer, especially in February, then do attend the Festival de Jazz de Providencia – the best jazz event occurring annually in Mapocho’s riverside. In Providencia, this festival features the best local bands, international celebrities, and cheap entry feels for $3 as per 2007. Choose this event if you feel that nightlife in summer here is a bit costly.

Why leave without tasting the Chile specialties? Do try the Southern Sopaipillas or South of Linares that is a fried pastry in circles replacing bread in desserts. And yes, its Hotdog or complete is also unique as it has nothing to do with the American version. If the ingredients include tomato, chili, mustard, mayonnaise, mashed avocado, ketchup, and sauerkraut; it forms a full sandwich with the Italian flag colors.
